Atmosphere is simple and nice. I loved the art on the walls. Great music. The service was super fast - we sat down, ordered, and it was placed in front of us within minutes! The food was delicious! We had pulled pork, and it was really good. The vinegar sauce (on the table) was excellent - plus they also had a bottle of the thick, red type of bbq sauce. Our sides were Brunswick stew, coleslaw, Mac & Cheese, and fries - all really good. The hushpuppies were VERY tasty - but the"corn stick " was not to my liking, I'm sure most people enjoy it though. The menu has some good desserts listed, but even though we wanted to, we didn't order any. The live oak tree behind the restaurant is beautiful, with a nice deck built around it and a few picnic tables - it would be a cool place to eat your meal!

Food is good if you like vinegar based BBQ. If not stay away. Coleslaw is made with mustard. Wait staff was very unhappy to be there and serve us. Asked if I wanted better then didn’t bring it, my wife asked for more tea, she brought some pours it in her cup and walked away. My cup was siting there right beside hers over half empty and she walked away. Never to return again till she dropped our bill off and just walked away again.

I tried Jackson's Big Oak the other day. I was disappointed in the food. There was no smoke at Big Oak. I got the bbq, ribs and fish. The bbq and ribs had zero smoke flavor. The ribs tasted and looked like they were boiled with sauce on them. It didn't taste bad but if you like bbq I would not recommend this place.

If you like Carolina style BBQ this is a traditional pork place. The only thing barbecue I found on their menu was just some pulled pork and it tastes just like do you expect Carolina Barbecue. The flavors are kind of basic met for an older crowd. The chicken was good nothing unexpected and not out of this world. But I have the coleslaw on the side instead of on top of my pulled pork. It was The Best Coleslaw I've had in this state so far. It's not a traditional mayonnaise base not spicy just a whole different flavor worth trying. The three waitresses were very kind and interesting people. And the prices were Fair. It's definitely worth a trip if you're in town.

Jackson's Big Oak is conveniently located on South Kerr Avenue one block away from South College Road. I was in town for a conference at the Convention Center and drove the five minutes to eat supper here, where they have a walk up to go window outside and a dining area inside. When I arrived at 7:30 pm the place was packed with only one empty booth so I decided to get a barbecue plate with baked beans and french fries to take back to the hotel to eat. The young ladies at the counter were both cheerful, courteous, and friendly while I placed my to go order and I was out the door in less than five minutes with my food. Everything was good and will definitely eat BBQ her again the next time I am in Wilmington.
